Sony Rolls Out Early Firefox OS ROM For Xperia E

Sony Rolls Out Early Firefox OS ROM For Xperia E | NextPowerUp.

I played with some of the new Sony Hardware in the Sony Store and of course they make great hardware and have a great experience overall with their products. My wonder if when do we become saturated with too many phones and OS’s for the public to be able to consume.

This is not to stifle competition of course – not my point – my point is with a Firefox Phone, Ubuntu Phone, Apple iOS, Windows Phone, Android and of course rumors of a Amazon Kindle Phone and Facebook Phone do developers stop developing their apps for all these phones?

Of course I’m sure Twitter, Facebook and the large app developers will continue since they are branding apps for Xbox, Apple TV, Ruku and many other devices because their business is their content I just wonder when the consumer gets overwhelmed.

Maybe the challenge isn’t the phone or the OS they just become irrelevant… maybe it’s just the fact that the phone is free or cheap and it has all the apps I need. I mean they are getting to the point where phones will clones and commodities and whatever has my apps and is free when it’s time to upgrade is where the public will go.

Now that my rant if over of course I’ll be interested to see if there is something serious to separate this phone or is it just another iphone clone.

The Best Point and Shoot Camera Today…. Sony RX-100 RX100

I get asked a lot about what Camera to buy and I’m putting together a camera buying service that will allow you to give me your parameters and thus giving me the ability to select a few options for you to purchase. Now I will ask that you purchase them through the links I send you since I’m going to be dedicating my time to this I will get a small commission from the site you purchase from. I only use B and H Photo in NYC (which is the only place I purchase my camera equipment from) and Amazon for another option. I like Amazon but B and H is camera’s, is the industry and they have great service.

Ok – back to to point and shoot… Well, people always want the best option for the money and normally when someone tells me they have a budget of X and I say for Y you could get this and be much happier they find a way to upgrade. With that said sometimes it will be about not spending too much money but getting the write platform. I had this happen the other day when I was helping a friends daughter that was pregnant to get a camera for when she had her first baby. She had this massive DSLR picked out with long lens and BANG! A back problem she was looking to give herself. I mean why would you want to carry something that is just as heavy as your new born as well as didn’t even take as good of pictures “FOR HER SITUATION” Key message there…. for her situation. My wife always asked me while I have so many cameras and I explained they all (or most :) ) have specific uses… that is what we need to find out from you.

So … coming soon is Nick’s Camera Buying Service (Free to you of course)

Point and Shoot’s are everywhere…. everywhere from WalMart, Target to Best Buy, the Internet and beyond. You have spent $150 here – and $200 here… never really happy… so have I!!! But Sony has really changed all that for me – They have come up with this new RX-100 that really has it all and fits in my front pocket. I carried it with me last night to a comedian shot and got great low light inside pictures with no blurry faces…. you know the kind of pictures you want to take.

Specs for you Geeks:

Product Highlights

  • 20.2MP 1″ Exmor CMOS Low-Light Sensor
  • Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T Lens
  • Xtra Fine 3″ LCD Display with WhiteMagic
  • Optical 3.6x Zoom & Digital 7.2x Zoom
  • Optical & Electronic Image Stabilization

  • Ultra-Fast 0.13 Sec High-Speed AF
  • Face Detection & 10 fps Burst Mode

Now with all this said I own this camera as well – it’s not one of these cameras I review and send back  - I do that as well but this is not one of them. I wanted something that shot in RAW, did video, had great lens was small enough to fit in my front pocket or cargo shorts pocket and I could trust I was getting great quality results.

Want so actually see proof – here are some shots from the RX100

This is a camera that I if you purchase you will take with your everywhere – you will use and enjoy. I am not sure what else I could say about the RX-100/RX100 other than get out and buy one and start capturing memories.

Now if you really want to stop up one more step the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 Full Frame Compact Digital Camera is truly a better camera but it has the price tag to match :)

As some of you know I have become more and more enamored with what Sony is doing in the Camera space. I really love the NEX line as well as my RX-100 and my A77/A99′s are really great price performance cameras. I don’t have the same lens collection for them as I do the Canon line which is my workhorses right now but as time progresses I could see me moving into the Sony family more and more.

Sony DSC-RX100 20.2 MP Exmor CMOS Sensor Digital Camera with 3.6x Zoom
Sony SLTA99V Alpha SLT-A99V Full-Frame 24.3 MP SLR Digital Camera with 3-Inch LED – Body Only (Black)

This was a cool video I came across of the construction of Sony’s new products… it’s really amazing to see how little the components have become over time and how proficient these folks are at putting them together. Take a watch I was completely impressed with this video and found it fun as well….

Keep up the great work Sony!
