My love affair with Palm Springs started by accident – I really didn’t know much about the area and just small pieces about it’s history. I went there on a whim for a golf get away while living in Seattle. I needed to thaw out and get some sunshine… of course play a little golf. I got there at night so I didn’t really get to see much other than the hotel I was staying at. I unpacked and fell asleep.
When I woke up I was astounded by the mountain views, the wind towers and the desert… I never thought I would find the desert so beautiful but I was captured by it. One thing I kept hearing about was the Palm Springs Tram – now let me say even though I have climbed many towers to put up antennas as well as stayed in the highest towers of NYC I always get a little squeamish by heights. I couldn’t take it though and I wanted to get up on that tram to see the valley.
Drove over the the tram site and purchased my ticket. Remember I was on a golf trip and I packed for the desert and didn’t expect to see snow… with a unique spinning tram (very slow) you start to rise above the first mountains and then see an amazing view below. The Coachella Valley offers something for everyone – food, golf, entrainment, restaurants, shopping and so on… but this view is woth giving up a day of whatever else you had planned.
At the time I went up I wasn’t as accomplished of a photographer as I am today so someday I will have to head back and redo these shots but please enjoy my photos of the valley from the top of the viewing tower.
