Well, I just got back from a cruise with my wonderful wife and I have been thinking about what my photography goals are for 2013 and as they might change a little here is what I started to think about for my growth….
.) 365-Day Project – Picture a day for sure but I want to not stress myself out by having to post everyday. I sometimes get the picture and get more stress from trying to get them edited and posted. I also have to remember that I will not take a perfect picture everyday but I should be attempting to tell a story and learn.
.) Work on my Blog Posting – I would love to consider a weekly post as a minimum that has a theme of photography. Whether it’s how I took this or why I took this. Ensure I am continuing the story telling.
.) Flash Photography – I really want to explore off camera flash photography this year. I have the equipment and the learning material. I love available light photography in my personal and business photography but believe adding more lighting to compliment my subjects will be great.
.) Video – I have several cameras that are well know for their video capabilities. I want to explore video more this year I believe the medium is part of the future of my business but also really captures memories and with the proper editing could tell a great story.
.) Gigapan – before this year is over I want to do some gigapan work. I have one and need to use it… I have seen great results from others in the genre and believe I have some great subjects in my area that fit and could tell a great story.
.) Long Exposure / Time Lapse – I put these together only because they have traits I believe are similar. Long Exposure really smooth’s out water and makes movement really interesting. Time Lapse also does great with capturing motion, which is something I want to spend more time doing this year.
.) Photoshop / Lightroom – Continue to update my editing skills. I had a Kelby membership that I didn’t use enough to justify it again but I have the books and enough online free training. I am much better than I was but I want to continue to refine my post processing workflow, learn new skills and continue to make pictures that appeal to people.
.) Travel – I am going to pick a few places on my bucket list this year and try to get out to see them. My wife and I have considered renting an RV as we have several dogs that we always want to take with us or my best friend has gotten into photography and loves the Southwest as much as I do. I would like to capture at least one new destination this year.
.) Stock Photography – While I have spent some time learning and have been encouraged by many to start looking into stock photography I believe this is the year I am going to go through my whole library and submit much more for sale. I have a huge collection that I have been told would make great stock. This is the year to take on that challenge and make it part of my business.
.) Shoot more fine art for sale – I have a Senior Photography and Wedding Photography business that is starting to pick up but would like to get more fine art into the market and something I really have a passion for.
Well, that is a lofty list of goal for myself this year and I’m not sure I’ll be able to accomplish all of these goals but I am sure going to try. Please follow along and would love your feedback!
